Scrapbooking Ideas – Decorations For Your Halloween Scrapbook

Scrapbooking is a very fun and creative activity to do with your family. There are many things that you can do for your scrapbook; you can put certain types of embellishments, cute little scary stickers, spooky Halloween brads and use creepy scrapbooking ideas or recreate other Halloween decorations to make materials for your scrapbook. While some people prefer to stick to the norms of scrapbooking, others like to experiment with new things to give their scrapbook a livelier outlook. Here are some scrapbooking ideas.

Costume
If one of the best things about scrapbooking is to be able to take photos during the costume making and the wearing of the costume, then wouldn’t it be nice to have your costume on your scrapbook pages? Not the real one though as it won’t fit but why not make a miniature model of your costume with dummy fabric? Paste the costume onto your layout and decorate with pictures of the real costume and random strips of the fabric used as alternative for your ribbon.

Mummy
If you can create a dummy version of your costume, then the mummy can be recreated into a dummy version too. You can choose from recreating your mummy by molding a doll from clay and wrapping it with tissue or creating a small voodoo doll look-a-like that you can wrap with tiny strips of thick tissue. Once you have a dummy mummy, decorate your layout with pyramids from cardstock for an Egyptian look or for a more spooky look, pimp your pages with pumpkin stickers and jack-o-lanterns.

Scrapbooking Ideas – How to Use Deep Embossing

Deep embossing is a great way to give dimension to your scrapbooking ideas, it gives the opposite effect that embossing powder gives so the image or wording you stamp is indented rather than raised.

You can purchase specialist deep or ‘thick’ embossing power from most scrapbook stores and also online scrapbook stores however I find normal embossing powder works just as well if not better and really makes your scrapbooking ideas come to life.

To affect this technique begin by inking a piece of card. I would recommend thicker card than your standard card stock. Use a versamark inkpad and dab the ink all over the card. It is also a good idea to cut the card to size before you begin.

Once the card is inked sprinkle a layer of embossing powder over the card. Tap any excess powder off (this can be put back into the pot). Next use a heat gun to heat the powder on the card then repeat the process over and over again until you build up a thick layer. Specialist powder may take one or two coats where as normally embossing powder will need five or six layers applied.

While the embossing powder is still hot and looking almost runny from the heat of the heat gun start inking the stamp you have chosen to use with a staz on ink pad. Press the stamp firmly into the heated embossing powder. Leave the stamp in place for a few seconds then gently lift off to reveal your indented stamped image.

This method is great for adding wording and images to your scrapbooking ideas and really makes any scrapbook page layout come alive.

Always think about your scrapbooking ideas before you start so you know what stamps you are going to use. If you do leave the hot embossing powder to long and it sets reheat it and try again

The reason it is best to use a staz on ink pad is because the ink dries quickly and you may find a normal pigment based ink pad smudges or at the very least takes ages to dry.

Using deep embossing or ultra think embossing powder is a great way of creating embellishments and 3d words to add to your scrapbooking ideas and layouts. It may be worth investing in a set of letter stamps so you can create any word or phrase you need to adhere to the page you are working on.

The technique of deep embossing works very well with simple stamp patterns however you may find you will have difficulty obtaining a clear pattern or image when using complex and very detailed stamp images as the fine lines in the stamp pattern may become smudged or blurred using this process. Therefore it is far better to use simple stamp patterns and images when deep embossing.

Your Scrapbooking Page Can Have a Variety of Embellishments

The scrapbooking page usually has photos as the general focal point, there are a wide variety of embellishments you can add to dress up your scrapbook. In fact, these added touches are sometimes the most expensive element of traditional scrapbooks, although if you get creative enough, you can add almost anything without spending a lot of money.

Flowers and ribbons are popular embellishments for the scrapbooking page. You can use real flowers that you have dried yourself, silk flowers, or you can make flowers out of a wide variety of materials. Ribbons can be used in many ways as well. Sometimes, ribbons are added simply as ornamentation and other times, a special ribbon may be added because it is part of the story the scrapbook is portraying.

Die cuts are popular with many scrappers. These are simply precut shapes made out of paper, card stock, foam, wood, or other materials. You can find these in craft stores and online as well. Some individuals who do a lot of scrapbooking purchase their own die cut machines so that they can make their own die cuts. Of course, this is hardly practical if you are making a single scrapbook. Unless you plan to use a large number of die cuts, it is probably best to purchase them as you need them.

Some people prefer each scrapbooking page to lie flat and others like to add dimension to their pages. It is completely up to you and beginners may want to experiment with an assortment of embellishments and decorations until you find the type that works for you. It may also depend on the type of scrapbook you are making as to the kinds of decorations you will choose. For example, if you are creating a graduation scrapbook then you may want to add an assortment of tassels to your album. You can have a lot of fun with this if you want to get really creative and make some tassels out of different fibers and use tassel cut outs to hold some of the pictures.

Many people like to add a personal touch to their scrapbooks by hand writing some of the titles or captions. Recipe cards and notes also add a special touch when they are written in the hand of someone special. There is really no limit as to how you can enhance the look of your scrapbooking page and you can find a lot of ideas online.

Scrapbooking With Office Supplies – A Money-Saving Alternative

You love scrapbooking as a hobby, but staying within your budget can be a challenge if you want to indulge in all the latest paper and embellishments for your page layouts. It’s important to balance your passion for making beautiful scrapbook pages with your need to stay out of debt. Scrapbooking with office supplies can be a cost-effective alternative to high-priced scrapbooking embellishments.

The first thing to consider when using office supplies in your page layouts is the overall topic of your scrapbook. For example, is this the kind of scrapbook that has a very informal theme to it – a way for you to chronicle events shared with family and friends? Or, is this a more formal scrapbook that will be presented to someone as a gift? It’s easier to use readily-available office supplies in an informal album than a formal album, like a wedding scrapbook.

Visit your local office supply store or even a large discount store, and shop for the basics first. Does the store carry archival safe pens and paper? Check for essential tools like scissors, adhesives and paper cutters. You often will get a better price at these types of stores than the local scrapbooking store.

Now get creative with possible embellishments. Look for colorful paper clips, brads, simple stickers, and staples. Don’t limit yourself to the standard sizes either. Large paper clips and brads can become accents for photos or journaling blocks. Staples and brads can be used in much the same way as adhesives. Use them to attach die cuts to a page or add a larger page element like a decorative tag.

Office supply stores sell a variety of tags as well. In fact, when tags on scrapbooking pages first became popular, I could only find tags in office stores. They are so versatile on your layouts. Tags come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Look for circle tags, rectangular tags, and square price tags. I especially like to use the tiny price tags that come attached to a piece of string. Tags from office supply stores usually only come in white or beige, but you can overlay cardstock on them to give them more color, or you can paint, ink or chalk them. I use tags in my page titles, journaling blocks, and as a unique page element all its own.

You can find a lot different envelope options when scrapbooking with office supplies. Check the aisles for mailing and shipping materials, as well as the stationary section. A few years ago I learned about bank envelopes. These are small little envelopes that make fun pockets for a short note or photo on your page. They can be a little difficult to find, but I usually found them in the section where cash register tape is sold.

A little imagination can go a long way toward stretching your scrapbooking supply budget. Adding office supplies is just one option. Look around you for more everyday items that can be used in your scrapbooks.

Great Priced Scrapbooking Layouts Ideas

Its funny. You know that in Australia being a Scraper (Yeah I know its spelt differently but it is pronounced the same way!) means you like to fight or mix it with people. Whereas when you’re speaking about Scrapbooking you referring to being part of a community where people are able to make beautiful things from offcuts of paper and other things most people believe are rubbish. What a contradiction, Hey.

Perhaps this is the reason I have become really interest in scrapbooking. I’m one of these people who hate to throw things out. Everything can be used again and again which is much to the horror of my wife and family. Scrapbooking is great in that you can use old and new items to make wonderful gifts from the heart. All you really need is an Idea and guidance in making it work.

One of my other great loves in life are books. As I’ve become older my mind wants to learn again and although I love the internet as a knowledge source I still believe books with their texture and ready reference ability are much more preferable as a way to develop my knowledge base of Scrapbooking.

The internet however does have some great uses. One of those is being able to find excellent scrapbooking reference books and materials at great prices. Added to this with the press of a button these great products can be sent to your door.

This could be a really great Wedding Album and can be any size or style. I have used this design on a number of occasions for weddings and special family events and it is a very popular seller if you are looking into using scrapbooking as an income. Scrapbook Layout Ideas – Getting Started

I’m guessing since you are reading this that you’ve drawn a creative blank and are looking for some creative scrapbook layout ideas? I have been scrapbooking for over 20 years so I know how it feels to look down at an empty sheet for an hour and come up with nothing. Sometimes all it takes is a little push in the right direction. Try some of these tips and ideas.

Where Do I Get My Scrapbook Layout Ideas?

For some of the best scrapbook layout ideas, I’ve found Google to be a HUGE help! The simplest way to see creative ideas is to go to Google, type in “Scrapbook Layout Ideas” and click Images link at the top left side of the page. Last time I did this, I found hundreds of interesting layouts that helped get me started on my own designs. I’ve found when I’m stuck (writers block? no, scrapbookers block) sometimes I just need to see a few other ideas to get me moving in my own direction.

Instead of looking at scrapbook images as previously mentioned, doing a Google search on “Scrapbook Layout Ideas” can also turn up some pretty interesting and fun websites. Thankfully there are tons of people out there with a similar interest and have created some fantastic websites with tons of ideas to share with you.

Join a group. If you live in a decent size city there’s a good chance that there are a few hobby groups that get together once or more times a month. A good place to find out if there is a group in your city is to go to a local craft store and inquire there. Quite often the groups are held or sponsored by big craft stores like Michael’s.

Lastly, one other great source for layout ideas is EzineArticles. Since you are reading this article, Ezine has already proved to you that they are a great source for ideas and information, and on many subjects.

Scrapbooking Tips

Don’t be afraid to try new things. I’ve found after years of scrapbooking that I have gone through waves of different styles, and you can almost guess what year I did certain scrapbooks by how similar they look. Sometimes it helps to take your scrapbook templates and either throw them away or put them away in a drawer and forget about them for a while. If you find you usually start a page with placing a picture squarely in the top left corner, try starting at the bottom of the page and see where this leads you.

Don’t be afraid of colors. Some of the coolest scrapbook pages I’ve seen had strong or bold colors that livened it up.

Most importantly, have fun! What good is a hobby if it stresses you out.

Use Premade Scrapbook Pages to Create a Quick, and Snazzy Holiday Photo Album

As holidays come and go, you probably have plenty of photos to captivate those memorable moments. There are photos of family gatherings, gift exchanges, children exploring their new toys under the tree on Christmas morn, New Year’s celebrations, Easter egg hunts, and more. The usual photo album protects and organizes your photos, but that’s about all! Scrapbooks bring your photos to life and enable you to keep notes or depict a theme for specific occasions.

Maybe you don’t have time to create memory albums from scratch. A good solution to make a creative holiday scrapbook is to purchase premade scrapbook pages. These come in a variety of holiday themes ready-made to include your favorite photos.

Themes for Christmas may include snowmen, elves, ornaments, wrapping paper designs, Christmas stars and more. Premade pages for Thanksgiving usually have harvest designs with turkeys and pumpkins. Easter scrapbook pages often feature spring flowers, Easter eggs and rabbits. Premade scrapbooking pages are available for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day if you want to honor your parents with a unique photo album or help your own children surprise the other parent! There are also custom scrapbook pages for St. Patrick’s Day, 4th of July, Halloween, New Year’s Day and Grandparents Day.

Premade scrapbook pages can be added to your current album if you already started making one on your own and haven’t had the time to update it. These also make great holiday gifts for girls who enjoy scrapbooking, although most girls prefer to create pages from scratch! Another idea is to create a few pages for a loved one as a gift using keepsake photos and premade scrapbooking pages. It’s a gift that will be treasured for life as you remind them of a sentimental moment or perhaps even a funny moment. You might include a card that says, “Remember this moment?” and send their new custom scrapbook page by mail.

Durable Protection for Your Holiday Photos

Shop for custom scrapbook pages that are clearly marked “acid free.” Paper with high levels of acid can add to the acid already present on photos. This is called acid migration, and can cause a chemical reaction that can distort the coloration of your photos over time. Custom made scrapbook pages are usually hand made with special care to ensure long-lasting enjoyment of your photos. These usually cost between $5 and $20 depending on the style and materials used, but they’re well worth the investment if you want your photos to be around for future generations to enjoy.

Some companies allow you to custom order your pages and specify the theme and artwork based on your needs. For example, perhaps you’d like to create a special wedding photo scrapbook and want to use your wedding theme and colors as a springboard for the scrapbook pages. You might not be able to find the exact designs needed, but a scrapbook designer can create the pages from scratch to your specification.

A premade scrapbook page also enables you to document each holiday photo for future viewing. Imagine your grandchildren looking through your memory albums years later with no documentation. They will not know who is in the photo or when it was taken. Documentation eliminates the worry that your photos may one day be discarded because they are not clearly labeled.

Holidays are meant to be remembered. Premade scrapbook pages make it possible to preserve your memories in a fun, creative way!

My Scrapbook Embellishments – What You Need to Know

Don’t be afraid to get started on your first Scrapbook.

A good way to get started would be to attend a scrapbooking event. Look around your community or ask a few friends if they know of anything coming up. Some scrapbooking supply stores offer free classes to help you get started. These same stores may let local people post announcements in their stores of upcoming events. This is where the beginner has an opportunity to be a sponge and soak up all of the tools and techniques being used by many scrappers in one place. Then you are able to get a better idea of what your individual style or tastes will be and you can avoid spending money on things you discover you won’t use.

Once you have a chance to observe an event or take a beginner class, then pick a small project you have wanted to do a scrapbook for and start gathering the things you will need. The basics are: scrapbook album, photographs, scrapbook paper, scissors, double-sided tape, trinkets or scrapbook embellishments (these can be anything you saved from a vacation experience, party favors, sports memorabilia, etc…just something to do with the project you have chosen to scrapbook about)

Next, it’s a good idea to create a “power layout”. This is where you can sort of organize your book in a certain order. Many people layout their book in chronological order. A power layout can be a simple as placing a scrap piece of paper on each page with a hand written note on what that page should be about. You could also put the photos you are going to use on that page with the note. Just a general layout is all you need at first. You may decide later to shuffle the order around because of an idea that came to you later.

Experimentation is a big part of the thrill. Don’t be afraid of getting it wrong. Just jump in and get started. Some people like to start on the first page in the album and others start on a page in the very middle of the album because it has a favorite picture that you have been inspired with a particular idea for that page. It doesn’t matter where you start as long as you go for it!

The great thing about most scrapbook albums these days is it is easy to take pages out and put them back in somewhere else. So if you decide to shuffle your layout around it’s not a big deal.

As Nike says “Just do it”.
